Driving Nature-Based Actions

Our story began as Instituto de Reflorestamento Eden—working across Brazil we planted 12 million trees.

About us

We are a nonprofit organization fully committed to promoting ecological restoration for ARR projects and other vegetation recovery initiatives, with a special focus on building meaningful relationships with communities.

We go way beyond just planting trees; we establish forests alongside those most affected by the climate crisis. But these 12 million seeds or seedlings planted mean healthier soils, more resilient ecosystems, and sustainable opportunities for more people.

What does this mean?

What drives our actions

Uncontrolled deforestation from livestock, agriculture, and illegal logging threatens Brazil's ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

Brazil is home to 15-20% of the world’s biodiversity, and we know we must protect this natural wealth.

Where we are and what we are doing

We have experience working in the Cerrado, Caatinga, and Amazon Legal regions, in both coastal and terrestrial areas.

Tropical Forests

  • Restoration of degraded areas

  • Protection of thousands of endemic plant and animal species

  • Supporting local communities toward sustainable agriculture

Coastal Areas

  • Mangrove reforestation and restoration

  • Reducing erosion and stabilizing coastlines

  • Protecting habitats for a variety of marine and bird species

Cerrado

  • The Cerrado is the second largest biome in South America

  • We are recovering lands devastated by large agricultural farms and slash-and-burn practices

  • We are also preventing desertification in Brazil’s “water tank”

We hire local people to restore their own ecosystems

By hiring people from the local communities, we not only boost the regional economy but also value local labor.

This creates a culture of preservation that ensures sustainable development for future generations. So far, our projects in Maranhão, Goiás, and Piauí states have generated income for over 200 people.

Long term-impact

We are the only organization in Brazil working with blue carbon and restoring mangrove areas on a large scale. We currently have nearly 9,000 hectares available for culturally sensitive and highly beneficial projects for biodiversity, soil, and local value chains.
