Our mission

We believe that empowering communities is the path to true ecological restoration.

We are all about collaborative actions

Our primary mission is to work closely with communities, understanding their unique realities, offering employment with dignity, and promoting socioeconomic and cultural value chains.

What we do + our vision

The design and strategic development of our projects are participatory processes involving technical teams, communities, and stakeholders. It takes many hands working together to achieve our goal: restoring thousands of hectares of degraded land across diverse ecosystems.

We are driven by diversity

Our field worker selection process is based on socio-economic factors, always focusing on those who most need the jobs to support their families.

50% or more of our teams are always composed of women, Quilombolas, or Indigenous people. We train our hires to become planters, nursery workers, and leaders.

Organic reforestation

The strength of our work is rooted in nature and interconnectedness. We understand the importance of bees and soil microbes, which is why we do things differently from many other organizations—every planting we do is organic, using no herbicides, pesticides, or machinery. This method not only avoids polluting ecosystems but also creates more job opportunities.

Diverse Ecosystems, Approaches that are Adaptive

We only plant native species specific to each biome or ecosystem. Our work involves planting seedlings and seeds using methods such as cuttings, transplants, and muvuca (direct seeding). Our completely organic, community-led approach has proven to be successful.

Seed collection centers

We establish native seed collection centers in the regions where we work. This ensures a consistent and diverse seed supply and allows us to involve more local people and generate additional income.

30+ tons of seeds

have been collected for our projects.

From Goiás to Piauí

SamaÚma Ações Baseadas na Natureza was born from our story with Instituto de Reflorestamento Eden. Our team has planted over 12 million trees across Brazil, and we aim to do even more.
